Not a review just yet but will do one ron after I've taken a few pics with it.

Got a call the other day a polarized filter I'd ordered for the big camera had arrived, Runus Fustus was about & he had asked me a few weeks back about helping him out picking out a new digital camera so off we went down to the Goody Good Guys @ Carringbah where I allways get looked after & a few of the guys here have also got good deals when mentioning my name.

Anyways Ash [sales guy] started showing off a few of the camera's & after 1/2 doz he looked @ me & asked if I wanted to look @ the olympus which hadn't gone on display yet.

Yep I said & off to the back storeroom he disappeared, out of the box it came batteries inserted then it was demo time

Well I was impressed & ended up getting one for myself as well as Runus buying one, my wittle canon had been dropped a few times & the zoom was stuffed on it & that was all the excuse I needed laugh.gif laugh.gif

Dont like taking the SLR on the wittle boat & this Olypus was ideal 1/2 way in between a SLR & a toy camera it was the 18 X zoom lens that got me here's a copy & Paste of specs & a review that was done on the camera.

How many megapoops? laugh.gif

P.S. Can I go back on the shoutbox now? biggrin.gif
Jumpus GooDarus
It's got 8 Megapoopies, but I really liked the speed setting on it.

Last yeah we had a mako doing summersaults out of the water & I only had the toy camera with me, by the time I pressed the button & camera took the shot the mako was allready back in the water.

Rumpy. As you know I am also thinking about a new digi camera, would like to know price if you would be so good as to inform me. PM if you would rather let 1 at a time know.
Gotta go to Canberra on Friday, ( Good mate passed on, and is being berried Friday ) but I would like to head your way again shortly for another session, Just keep those rods away from me, cause I don't want to break another one.

Only thing I don't like about this camera is the 4 x AA battery thing.
My wifes olympus takes the AA batterys and we are all the time buying new ones and the rechargable ones don't last anytime at all and are a waste of space.
Still let me know how much and I can think about it.

Something that I did not mention when I picked up my camera from the Good Guys at Carringbah was just as I was parking my car I got the advertisement of the Good Guys on the radio. So I was humming the sound in my head as I walked into the store.

I was wondering if they would have given a better deal if I was singing out loud their theme song instead of telling them that Jumpiness sent me.

Yeah christos if you went in singing I'm pretty sure thet would've thrown you into a washing machine laugh.gif laugh.gif

Little tip on the LCD-I highly recommend the Samsung's-All day I'm dealing with big screens and the Samsungs really are I feel the best value for money, they're as good as the Sony and Panasonic's-I'v got one myself after doing a bit of testing in store!

Nice cam JG!

Frank, I am so glad I bought my old Fuji which takes 4 x AA's. I am probably not as organised as you and have forgotten to check if the spare batteries need recharging only to find I have 2 sets of flat batteries. A quick trip the the shops and at least I can take photos.

With rechargables you need to look at the capacity (as with any deep cycle batteries). Most of my AA's are 2400mAh (you can buy larger) and last for ages. I have seen many rechargables at supermarkets that are not rated so I guess are very low capacity.

Jumpy, I will be interested in the report. Two important things for me: 1) time it takes to power up and 2) speed you can take photos, both of which my older camera is slower than I would prefer.
kkw
My Nikon D70 takes .6 of a second to power up and take the first shot. Continuous shooting at 1.6 frames per second on high res jpeg and 20 fps on VGA res. In RAW, it takes 3.2 fps for the first 3 shots and then slows as the memory card is being written to. Can also change to any lens size, same as a film SLR.

If I had the $$$$$ to spend, I too would get a NIKON.
I have 2 Nikon 35mm slr's that I used to use a bit, but haven't had a film for quiet some time now.
With the Olympus having such a huge zoom lens 27mm through to high 400's ( can't remember the exact focal length of the upper scale ) there is no need for me to get a more expensive slr digi camera.

Other then being able to change lenses ( which you first have to buy and store/carry etc ) what is the advantage of the modern day slr digi OVER the standard digi cameras of today.
This camera has all the lens power you would ever want, except for moon and stars photos, and then to get a moon follower and say 2000mm mirror lens or equivelant, I would hate to thing of the $$$$$$ it would cost.

Frank I'v got mates in the industry and all they buy is Cannon-mind you they're buying top of the line bodies and lenses that most of us would not need let alone the $$$$ they spend which could re-power a boat with a large outboard!

I got the camera today. Basically it's not a bad thing, shot off 20 photos and the thing told me the memory was full.
I knew I would be buying a 2gig card, but I thought the inbuilt memory would allow a few more then 20 shots.
Will be shopping for card and decent rechargable batteries and charger tomorrow, and a decent carry bag.
the pissy little excuse for a carry bag that comes with the camera is a joke.
I do have some other carry bags here but might as well sport it to a newie.
