well il start things off

i remember 1 time while fishinig in botany bay at the sticks at about 8am on a wednesday morning about a year and a half ago,

i was at the sticks and the water was full of tiny bait fish totally every where, i swear i could of put a net in the water and scooped up a tonne of bait fish ,
any way all of a sudden they disappeared, i thought it was strange so i learnt over the side and while looking into the water i saw a shadow, seriously this shadow was half the size of my boat and my boat is 5.7 metres long, i wish i had a camera handy , hence thats why i never swim at the beach,

another time while in the georges river i was fishing with my old folks on the eastern side of the railway bridge at como and we where in about 1 metre of water chassing flattys and whitting, about 10pm at night and there was a huge cruiser comming towards us and the bridge, my parents started to get concerned when the boat didnt change direction and kept heading for us, so we pulled in our lines and just us i was about to up anchor the boat ran aground, and all u could hear was people screming and the sound of glass smashing, we watched them try everything to get off the sand bank , funny site watching a $500,000 cruiser beach itself and the owners having to wait till a high tide,

The scariest thing i ever saw was around 3 1/2 years ago when there were lots of sightings of sharks in the Parramatta river. Well i was one of the sacred ones that actually sighted one and still to this date will not swin in any rivers.

I took the boat down Putney boat ramp and headed east around 500 metres when i saw fins in the distance protruding out of the water. At first glance i thought it may be a lost dolphin but as i got closer (but not too close) it was one hell of a scary shark which thankfully was minding its own business and just going about its own way. Thankfully it wasn't one of those Jaws film computer generated shark which wil ram your boat. I would say it was about 3 metres long and i wasn't going to bother it and make it angry. I didn't have a camera with me at the time to take any pics.

Geez where do I start laugh.gif

The 1st thing that came to mind was the time we were out fishing for Yellow Fin the fish were only small that day around 20 kg.

One of the guys was hooked up & had the fish within 50 meters to the boat when a bloody big sea lion came from nowhere & grabbed it he didn't want to eat it just sat there tossing it up in the air & played with it.

Well the angler was on 24 kg tackle & managed to get the yellowfin away from the sea lion got it to the boat & gaffed it the YTF was dead next thing you know the sea lion rocks up looking for it's toy & got the sh*ts when he couldn't find it & started smashing the side of the boat.

We all bolted for cover & hid but the sea lion was still bashing the side of the boat so we made the guy who caught the YFT run out & through it back into the water, well that made the sea lion happy didn't it he had his toy again & started tossing i up in the air like a plastic ball.

Then when we hooked the next tuna the bastard threw away the old one & grabbed the fresh one ended up starting the motors & moving had to start a new cube trail all over again

To me this might be weird sort of weird. To others it might not be.

When I first started to fish in my twenties I would go with a friend that showed me how to fish. This is a long story in itself so I will not go there. I was not catching fish back then and this is another long story, so we will leave that one alone. I have told this story to friends and some might have heard this before.

This was a time before that third runway (Sydney Airport) was put in. You could park the car in what might be considered a car park and walk around to about three quarters of the runway. It was sandy beach and more likely to be clam all of the time. I would stand about ankle deep in water and cast out. My friend is about five feet seven inches high and he would walk in the water rod over his head ready to cast. He would not stop until the water is about chest high for him. He would cast out and walk back to the shore set the bail arm and wait for a fish. We stayed until he dried off before going back to the car.

I am sure that most fishing persons have a story of one friend that has done a weird thing. Are you willing to dub your self in?

I remember the day many moons ago, when I was fishing with my dad in a 12ft tinnie with a 9.9hp evenrude sportwin great little Savage boat with very low sides, we were out off Wreck Bay on a calm day about 3 miles off shore, not getting many bites when another little boat came past all yelling and pointing behind us, we looked around and dad said pull in your line and don't move while I get the Bastard started, just behind us was a fin standing about 2 1/2 ft out of the water It was just cruising around the head was just beside me as the motor fired up and the fin was still behind the boat it was about 20ft long. we got to shore as fast as we could and went straight home. I still tremble when I remember, and I think we went straight home so Dad could change his Pants.

Sharks have never scared me, I have been sailing with dolphins and sharks swimming besides us, and fishing with them swimming around the boat.

Not saying i would cover myself in blood/burley and jump in but yea, I would dive with a shark no worries!

Weirdest thing i have seen would have to be either, seeing a 41ft Yacht run aground at Jibbon Bombora.
Another 41ft Yacht clip the side of a tanker entring botany bay,
Being on a 30ft Yacht stuck in a water spout,

Umm, Ill keep thinking, Seen some pretty silly things through my sailing days when i used to spend 5 days a week on th water, Ive forgotten many of them now.

We got trailed by a whale one day, it started off interesting then as it got closer the nervous jokes started and it was funny until it got too close for comfort and then it got downright scary.
No worries, I turned the boat 90 degrees to starboard to shake it off, the sucker turned with us and continued to gain on us.
This was a BIG FRIGGING FISH so down went the throttle, that poor old Hartley sure used to ride hard at speed out in the ocean but we blew him off.

G'Day All,

Been wanting to add to this thread for a while now, cause i really reckon alot of the pevious stories where umm how should i say....natural occurances, but i've always been too busy.

Well tonight i'm bored so here goes.

I'll start with the first thing that struck me as weird when i started fish'n.

I was down the coast at a place called Lake Tabourie.A mate and i had been fish'n all morning for nothing. On the way home we were walking past the Lake when i seen a school of mullet, right out in the middle of the lake.

We'd just been trying to catch some bait on a bait jig and it was still on the rod.Mucking around i fired a big cast straight in the middle of the school.

The funny thing was my reteive.I was pumping and winding like JG on a game fish, just joking around when WHACK.I got a hit that shocked the life outta me.

I brought the fish in,expecting a mullet and was gobsmacked to see a strange fish on the end, with bright orange colours and some pretty look'n wings ta'boot.I ran home after carefully putting fishy back,to find out it was a Gurnard,a deep sea fish.

I've had a coupla weird things happen at this Lake, like the time my bro and i were cruising back up to the mouth,we spotted a sheila on the side do'n some gardening in a sarong,i could'nt help it and had to perve.

Next thing i know i heard some funny cracking noise and then Matt's screaming.I looked forward to see Matt getting burried in a bunch of branches. We went head on into a snag. laugh.gif ,OK that was just dumb not weird.

Another time there i was fishing SPs on the bottom, and getting these annoying little pecks. As i was finishing reteive i could feel them again so i jigged and jigged. When my lure popped the surface i took my eyes off it for a sec and they came back TAP,TAP,TAP.i looked down and was shocked to c a little flounder pecking it on the surface, now that was weird.

Now lets go to grotto point, seen a coupla weid things there.

The first and still to this day possibly the weirdest thing yet.One Australia day we were there, had been allnight. When a weird dude rocked up and started whinging we burnt all his wood laugh.gif ,and said all his mates were coming.
We ignored him and kept fish'n,anyway this dude starts ripp'n his clothes off and then started parading around putting little Aussie flags in the ground. When he bent over near me i warned him i'd use him for a rod holder,a beach od at that mad.gif .
You would'nt beleive it but he had backup alright,a heap of'em came by foot but the weirdest one of them all arived by sea,i could'nt beleive it.This bloke rides the swell in on his Kyak, only to jump out of his kyak stark naked :o .Another weird thing there was finding a porno(mag) on the rocks, large 40+ women on the cover YUK.

I have a few more weird stories but they'll have to wait.

I was heading south towards Marley one morning, around 2klm east of Port Hacking, when I spotted a Rusa stag swimming due east. I harrassed him until he headed west and back to shore. I have seen lots of Rusa deer swimming in Pt Hacking, but never so far out to sea.
Then there was the time we brought a very decomposed body into Sans Souci. Lots of ethnic 'busy bodies' came running over from the wharf, to have a look. When the unfortunate cadaver plopped out of the Stokes litter and fell apart on the wharf, it cleared the area in seconds. An awful smell and a horrible way to end up. I don't miss those times.
Found a right leg, complete with sock and desert boot, off Wanda beach one morning. Next day, another one was found near the heads of Botany Bay. The other part to the remains I found, I thought. WRONG - it was another right leg.

I wrote an article on the Rusa deer of RNP for Shooters Journal mag, back in the 90's. The 'upper crust' brought them in from Indonesia in the 1800's so that they could feel more at home. A bit of England out in the boonies. They fenced off Deer Park in the RNP, thinking that they would be nice to look at on the estate. The Rusa attacked the Fallow deer and took over. They are also very good swimmers, so the fences were useless. By the time the penny dropped, the Rusa had swum to freedom and are still colonising the eastern escarpment from RNP down to Wollongong biggrin.gif

Catch just keep fish'n you will c plenty'o white pointers.

That reminds me,my bro and i were fishing Lake Tabouie, when we seen 8,thats right 8 chicks in 2 canoes,as usual we were watching them.I could see them heading straight for a sandflat.Sure enough they got stuck on it and when they all started thrusting to try and budge it.I had to yell out.

Anyway we spent the next hour towing them all round the lake,b4 they had to take the canoes back mad.gif .But then they got out and had a wet T-shirt comp,oh i mean water fight laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif .
