Going up to QLD in November for the annual Mud Bulls and Music Trip, CANT WAIT!!!

Anyway, after that im hoping to visit a mate who just bought a place right next to lake awoonga, so were gonna go after some barra or jacks and whateva else resides in there.

Just wondering what gear would i would need up there?

would my 5600c4 and 4/5kg Stick with 6kg fireline be heavy enough or should i upgrade the rod and run some heavier braid?

Your 4-5kg stick will be Ok but I'd upgrade to 8 or 10 kg line, I did lot of trolling up there in March and I trolled with a 12kg Penn Mariner and a Penn 309 levelwind using 15kg mono. also fished with 2kg 4'6 solid bream gear using 4kg tournament and had a ball with those big Catfish. If you want to fish saltwater while there get in touch with Bushido he lives at Tannum Sands and knows some good spots just on the Coast.

Had a look at a shimano Barra Raider (ian miller) 6-10kg, Rod had a very nice feel and i think would more suit my 5600,

the smaller rod i will find a round baitcaster style reel and fill wth mono as a light bottm rig in the estuarys and a trout trolling rig.

Been trying to find a reel to suit but finding a small over head reel that will hold a few hundered meters of 5-6kg mono that MUST HAVE a clicker isnt so easy..

Chad, there's plenty to choose from and they are not always the same, you could have two 6 to 10 kg rods in different makes and they could be like chalk and cheese, there is different taper's to consider, and even different brands with the same taper can be worlds apart, you have to check out many rods before you can settle on one that suits both yourself and the job at hand, I know from experience that I have found $50 rods that feel and perform better for me than $300 jobs, so don't kid yourself that if it has a NAME it is better.
The same goes for reels. I saw a Saratoga V60 on Saturday that cost $70 and Poly bought one yesterday from Tacklemania for $43 delivered same Reel, they are definately the same reel I have seen bearing the Shakespeare, Tica and Penn name. Patents DO expire so have a good look and try them.

I did actually have a look at the rod with the 5600 on it and was happy, wont be buyin it for a while an will prob find others to choose from but it gives me a idea of what i am after.

Reel wise, i have no idea yet, but have got plenty of time to look around.
