Well peeps after a poor late arvo's fushing last sunday with alex with only alby's stealing our baits & a pesty sharpus tootharus mako biting me off

Today was a much better day & worth doing a report on

Even talked myself into getting a real early start & was on the water by 11 am laugh.gif

Collected a few slimy's for livies & off we went on our merry way, flat sea's saw MC Hammers go down & revs up to 5 G

Cruising out sitting on 27 knots just outside the heads when a distractraction surfaced 100 meters in front of us so out came the camera with the big telepoopoo lens

Pics out of the way it was Hammer time again, 80 fathom line had the boat spooking baitfishys everywhere & I was 1/2 tempted to pull up & start cubing there but kept going another6 NM's to a spot that has produced for us all season.

A bit slow today took @ least 1/2 hour for the 1st run, wittle alby's were taking the baits & the buggers were hard to hook as well

Water wasn't a bad colour esp compared to sunday but something didn't sit right with me, a few boats up nth on Browns getting zero's all day on the radio, I was flipping the coin in my mind whether to head back in to the shelf or go out wider.

Flat conditions made the choice easy & it was out to the marks where we'd put our very own ?? Yes you guessed it

Dirk Diggler onto his very 1st YFT laugh.gif

I liked the drift out there but it took 40 odd minutes for the 1st run to happen missed a few which had alby written all over them, Jim was hooked up & giving him a hand to get the fish on board I turned my bad to stern.

When I looked back @ stern I saw what I thought to be 2 - 3 boils up on the surface 10 meters back, straight away without seeing the fishy's I called out YFT's

Boy wasn't I wrong, sort of tongue.gif Jim had thrown out another pilly & was putty his alby away when his reel starts screaming & this was no alby, brurry irriot was in ga ga land cause hepaid no heed to me telling him he was on so I slamed the reel into strike & thats when the wittle fishy started peeling off more line.

Jim finally picked up his rod hurt his back & asked me to take the rod off him, well well what a bitch of a rod that was a real back breaker & Jumpus wasn't silly after 5 minutes I called Skitso over & gave him the rod laugh.gif laugh.gif

Poor bugger had to fight the fishy up & down for next hr whilst I was laughing @ him, in the meantime we really couldn't fish cause this fishy was towing the boat around doind 360's so in came the other lines

Finally Colour so out came the gaff, well guys you dont often see Jumpus getting a stiffy but what caught my eye about this fishy whilst still 15 meters under the boat was it's sickles that's when I knew we had a GoodaRus Fishy.

Skitso using the Back Breaker

The wittle big fishy spewing out all the cubes it ate

Not certified scales & I convinced the wittle fishy would've made the 80 kegger mark but not so I'll get those scales checked cause they read 74 kg

74kg of YFT....... I'd be happy to take any excess meat of your hands, if you have any. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Also is that you....with a beard?! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Nice work, that's a top fish by anyone's standards.

P.S. If you wanna make your photo's extra special there a simple trick, adjust your photo's to make the horizon nice and straight. I fixed up one of the photo's so you can appreciate how good I am. super.gif hysterical.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif

C&R no mate Jumpy was right, you see at that time during the fight the tuna was running DOWN
current and therefor down hill.
To present the photo such as you have would make it appear as though the fish and angler were
on a level playing field, which is not true to the concept.

Jumpy. Well done mate, and to those on board.
That is a great fish in anyone's language.

Yeah it was a so so day out there.

Some days you feel it in your bones that something is about to happen, well I had that feeling yesterday.

One of the reasons my boat does quite well on our trips out is quite simple, we dont pack up & leave @ 3 pm so as we can get home in time to catch the 5 o'clock news that's where most boats fail esp when the fish no's have thined out to what they are now.

Like I said it's not that often I get a stiffy seeing a good fishy come in but have to admit I had a big smile on my face seeing this one I'd rather see a fish of this calibre than a doz 40 keg rats come to the boat.

But even in the good old days we'd prob only consider this fishy as an oversized rat laugh.gif

I wasn't joking either when I bagged Jim's rod it would go straight into the bin if it were mine, No good breaking your back with crap esp with the gear available these days, anybody who fish's 24 kg should have the common sense to be using a bent butt with appropriate bucket /harness.

Even with my good Aftco bucket/bum harness on I really could see the pain on Skitso's face but couldn't help myself I kept laughing @ him saying wind faster laugh.gif laugh.gif

Googlefush I have no probs playing with pics & know what you're on about as far as YFT steaks go had heaps in the freezer & only took one of the alby's which I prefer.

I'll add a few more pics to thread when I get around to D/Lg them off the other camera mean while here's another pic showing the wittle fishy's girth & the reason I think the scales are telling porkies, those who've caught big fin b4 will know what I'm on about.

OK Peeps !

Here's a bit of a update I wasn't happy with what the scales read.

Over the years I've been fortunate to catch plenty of big tuna & there's some old pics floating on this site of fish just under the magic 100 keg mark.

Anyways took the scales around to I've got a sore back JIM's place today reason being he's got a full on gymnasium there with all the weights that I needed to test the scales.

1st we loaded up the scales with 70 kg of weights & the scales read 60 kgs
next 80 kg of weights & the scales read 71 kg

So a good estimate put the fish @ 82 kg - 84 kg mind you the fish had also been bled & had spewed out a couple kgs of it' stomach contents by the time we'd eventually weighed it last tues night.

So I wasn't that far out with my initial call of 90 kg when it hit the boats deck that day.

Stopped off @ Botany Bay tackle today for a chat with my old mate Lewie & 1st thing he said to me when I walked in was 95 kg huh laugh.gif

Amazing how much fish grow after they've been caught isn't it laugh.gif set the story straight with him but it seems this is the biggest YFT caught off Sydney this season.

Anyways going back out tommorro to give them another crack

I will firstly say well done on the fishing.

I guess I missed the initial report. Have been doing a bit of clean up in the garage and it has taken some time. (Taking some time)
