Have my bday in early August and i told the missus i want to travel away for a week and do nothing but fish.
Any recommendations on where to go that time of year, even thinking of going on one of those live aboard boats. Dont matter if its to the far north QLD or down south for the big Reds.
I know its gonna cost me but ive never done anything like it before and want to give it a go. But i dont want to be disappointed!
If anyone has some ideas of where, what, and target fish, it would be appreciated. It would be a costly trip so i dont want to do it blind.

Salty, for $5000 for a week, you can stay at my house, you will have to provide your own meals and gear, but 1 hr to the north is the lachlan and 1 hour to the south is the bidgee.

In these rivesr you can catch the AWESOME EUROPEAN CARP, to a few Kg... By catch may include Cod or Yellowbelly..

Let me know if your interested..

Now for the real reply.

Renting a house boat could be an option. I did this long time ago and found that to be a lot of fun. You do not have to travel out the back of whoop whoop to get into one. Just an hour up the coast from Sydney. You provide everything, food, gear etc. They do not travel fast as they are only allowed to travel no more than 10knots. So you do not need a boating license.

I have also gone up the coast for a week or so. We stayed at Coolangatta and from there I was able to walk to the beach or walk to the Tweed river. It does take a little while to get there by car and so I went by plaine. The disadvantage of doing this is what you can take on the plain. I had the fishing rods in a lockable hard case for the trip.

The other option would be to go by car for a two hour drive and stay on the coast and then take a short trip of 5 to 10 minutes to the water. This gives you a variety of locations and types of fishing. I did a trip to Forster for this trip. Only was a two night stay and spent most of the time fishing.

Hi Phil,
If you want to catch fish in August the place to go is Maroochydore, I have a mate up that way and he tells me that the Snapper are just coming on now, there is plenty of charter boats running out of there and they go out to Barwon banks which is 30NM out, I should be going up in the first week in August, there is a van park on the river at BLI BLI Cabins are $50 per night for up to 4 people.

I WANNA GO: FISHIN WITH SUMO.

Ok, im back after a couple of days of work up the coast.
Rumpy, you will have to pay me $5000 to come up there and clean your systems of Carp!!! biggrin.gif

Christos i was thinking of travelling further than that and also doing some serious fishing in the deep.
If i was going to go to Forster to hire a boat i may as well tow my own boat up. But thanks anyway.

Boris. August 2nd mate!

Sumo, sounds good mate. I was looking to go further North, but wont if i dont have many options. You going up to fish, or to visit mates?

Salty, I'd love to say S.A. for snapper, but id only go with a group.
On a charter and with the bag limits, your going to be kissing a lot of fish and throwing em back.

The charter I've been on only go for snapper and have never let us down. But we often bag out on the big ones in the first hour and spend the rest of the day trying to find small ones. ( the irony) Thats the part that can get frustrating.. They keep finding the big boys and we have to leave them there.

Going with mates you can get on the turps... There is not much else down there.. Adelaide is 2-4 hours away

A group would be better down there, cause after fishing there would be nothing else to do but stare at my tits!!!
But i still have to do it one day. I dont think you could get sick of catching big Reds. Maybe just lower the line class to test my skill and have some fun.
As for bagging out, how many could you really keep? A couple would be plenty. Good photo shots with the rest.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is you will get your big red fun done in 2 fish. fish.gif
All the biggies hang out together.. Bang.. Bang.. 15-30 mins all done Then they will sound out spot after spot for the smaller ones, but if there are bigger ones there you wont drop a line. They reckon that they dont go back real healthy ect.

But in saying all of that, I haven't missed our annual trip for several years, except when my girl was born. It's a fantastic trip. Just a lot of downtime over the days. Which we cure in the pub poke.gif Which is fine by me, but not for everyone cheers.gif

Im with ya salty, id rather keep a few smaller ones and put the rest back.. Used to keep heaps of fish but they would go in the freezer and go off... now i just take 1 or two and eat them straight away

What about going over to WA, maybe the montebello Islands... That would be one hell of a fishing trip!

Haha, does it sound that way?? hysterical.gif Sorry mate, that wasn't my intention.

But they protect that fishery like nothing else. And the big boys are there all year round. fishing.gif

The charter we go with wasn't always a charter. It was a commercial boat for S.A snapper. It was only a few ago that the boys would go down to work on the boat for their holiday. Catching 100's of kilo's of the fish. all would go to market

I think they need a back up plan, and go for the whiting, nannigai and kingies ect that are down there if the smaller snapper aren't, thats all.... And it is your birthday trip after all super.gif
