What a nuisance my steering helm has worn out and I have to replace it, not too bad after +25 years I guess.
I hope I can find a replacement helm without having to change the cable as well because I know that some of the older rotary helms are no longer made.
When the time comes I'm looking for a volunteer who has a lump hammer and a large dolly to come over & smack the steering shaft for me while I pull on it, I get the feeling it's going to be tight.

I did invite KK up into the boat once but he declined, I think getting his jelly belly over the gunnel had him stumped.

Sure I don't mind paying you to hit the shaft while I pull on it, you running low on cash or something?

Hydraulic offers no mechanical advantage over cable other than it may be more turns from lock to lock which is something I don't want. If I did want it I would just move my drag link to the outer hole on the tiller or fit a bigger diameter steering wheel. Think about what you're saying, hydraulic steering isn't power steering mate.

Easy to see it's raining, I'm down to winding up Jumpy for entertainment.

Thanks Pez but it's a long way to come for a simple job, I'm going to try and bribe Jumpy with 2 chickens and a duck.

Sure - as if I would get into a dark boat with you Fed. I drew the line when you grabbed my backside and suggested you give me some "help". That last sentence in your quote is just wrong. Anyway, Jumpy will hit the shaft or pull it for nothing. He may even pay you.

Had a closer look and I don't think the helm is worn out at all, it looks like the helm is a little lose where it mounts through the dash and that combined with a little bit of wear is adding up to feel worse than it really is.
Either way the steering wheel still has to come off.

Have to get the little steering wheel cover off first Poly, it looks like it's part of the wheel but it can't be.
Don't want to break it. I call anything that breaks "Chucking a KK" now after he broke his anode bolt.
