while looking through a u.s. boat sales site I found it very hard to find boats built like the one's jumpus builds, most alloy boats seem to be riveted, I find this hard to under stand as i can not see a cost saving, o.k. it is a much thinner skin, but why not just weld it.

this is a starcraft 24ft half cab, and as you can see there is a row of rivers around the bow, to me over time the rivers will work loos and course leeks why build in this way????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Pop rivet, solid rivet, who cares they are still a rivet.. we might not all have your excellent terminology but they are still a rivet and your wrong jumpus

QUOTE
All tinny's are fully weld & those that have seats ALL have solid rivets securing them

Ive had boats that had WELDED seats, Not SOLID RIVETED Seats!!

Wa ???

Dont think so Spud hysterical.gif

A rivet is not just a rivet

They can & are be a structural fastener but not pop rivets

Just take a wook @ the harbour bridge & how many solid rivets went into it, better still commercial aircraft they are virtually held together by solid rivets & other fasteners which I wont mention cause ewe wouldn't know wot I was on about.

Those are very few & I was refering to tinnys's in general

That tinny I scraped had welded seats BUT it also had 2mm thick side skins so as the weld had sum ting to bite into

The average tinny has only 1.2 mm skins & solid rivets are a far better option structurally
