Hi guys,

For my trip round Oz I'm looking for a tinny to use as a cartopper.

Ideally it would be no bigger than 3.5 meters (about 12ft) so I can still easily load it by myself without having to invest in an expensive loading system.

For outboard I'm looking at a 15 or 18hp 2 stroke. If it's got a smaller engine but if the boat and price are alright it's fine too, I can always trade it in for a bigger one somewhere if I need to.

For safety I guess something with a v-hull and a bit higher sides would be nice but it has to still be able to go on top of a car. Other than that I'm not too fussed about what make it is. I think a lot of people use the Quintrex Dart for this purpose.

Price range no more than $2500. It would probably come with a trailer, since almost all do, but I don't need that, would have to get rid of it somehow I guess.

Any help is much appreciated. I've been looking at ebay and tradingpost and so far only really seen 2 that are somewhat near Sydney. Don't mind driving for a bit but I guess around 100-150k's is about the max distance.

Thanks guys.

Also on a side note, I'm still looking for a car although I've seen some likely ones. 60-series Landcruiser preferred or a GQ Patrol would be good as well. Dual fuel would be awesome cause I'm a tight arsed backpacker type but diesel would be the best from a maintenance perspective.. still struggling with that choice a bit tbh and not too many dual fuel ones around anyway. So if you know someone who's selling one with a roo bar that is in decent shape and no more than say $6000, please let me know as well.

You can send me a PM for my phonenumber as well

Jumpy. Think you better bring this to Martins attention, that sounds like something that you can't go past.

Is it one of the motors from the water damage auctions recently ?.

Nope not one of those

Just rang him to see what he had left as these wittle hp motors go quick

9.9 yammy prob is that it is a 4 banger & prob be a bit heavy

1 only 6 hp yammy long shaft which wont suit the wittle tinny tinny

He does however have a 6 hp johnno s/s not as clean on the outside but said a better unit on the inside where it counts

Jumpy. Thanks for setting Martin up with a motor.
It was starting to worry me that he might have to get one on his travels, which would not have been the ideal situation to be in.
I spose Martin would be on his way to Port Stephens now.
Boy what an adventure.
AAhhhh to be young and have enough money to be able to travel around Australia for 12 months, if only the clock could be turned back a few generations.

And after all the time he was here and with the mad dash and rush on the last day, I forgot to give him the tackle box I had here for him, all filled with essential goodies. I was keeping it as a last minute surprise for him, but at the last minute I forgot.

hey poly, thanks for helping me look mate. I haven't had internet for a few days so it's difficult for me to look for myself.

Like I said in the cartopper thread, Jumpy's mate had a nice 6hp yammy that I grabbed.

Frank, I'm still in Sydney mate, going to pick up the motor tomorrow (apparently my card has a bloody $500 limit that I didn't know about) and might also get that diesel leak thingie looked at before I head off. So I'll just pretend I didn't read that so it can be a surprise hey haha.. like you haven't done enough already! smile.gif

Well - what has happened to Martin? Has he pawned Frank's boat? hysterical.gif Will he ever bring it back? Has he gone fishing at all? So many questions, so few answers.

Anyone know where he is? Has he made it to the Whitsunday coast? Lots of rivers and creeks to explore up there. Just have to watch out for those big water lizards.

quick update:

His little outboard broke down and needs/needed repair.

Must treat it a bit more tenderly I think
