This is an 97kg fin taken at the shelf off Sydney.
Jumpus hooked him up on 80 stand up was on him for about 2hr then a southerly hit us wind and rain 40knots
could'nt see jumpus from the rain we were standing in the cabin. A disision was made iether cut it loose and get the hell outer there or hand over the rod to see if i could get him in fast , after 2hr jumpus was weary I just went for broke and got him up.
if the storm had'nt come JG would have got him in. we got blown a hell of a long way out to sea.

show us your stuff big or small
regards steve

Hey SUMO !

Do you have the same problem as I do ??

I catch the fush & all these clowns jump in & want their photo's taken then they claim they're gook looking

What is this world coming to I ask ?????

Aha !! found one without their ugly melons ruining the shot

Back in the good old days never used to have to go out wide to find fush below is an average afternoon on the Peak

This one is a bit of a rare one & not a Y/F Tuna

It's what's know as a Big Eye Tuna very similar & easy to confuse with a YF

Caught it up @ Hat Head prb about 20 years back & still remains The Australian Natinal ANSA record to this day on 15 kg tackle

My best ever Kingfish (77lbs) caught jigging at the Peak, I guess it was about 30 years ago.

There was some good fishing back then but there's no reason why it shouldn't be just as good now that the fish traps have gone.

Settle Petal's good story magnificent fish.
The whale shark, Rhincodon typus, is a slow filter feeding shark that is the largest living fish species. This distinctively-marked shark is the only member of its genus Rhincodon and its family, Rhincodontidae (called Rhinodontes before 1984), which is grouped into the subclass Elasmobranchii in the class Chondrichthyes. The shark is found in tropical and warm oceans and lives in the open sea. The species is believed to have originated about 60 million years ago.[2]

Just to set the story straight !

Many moons ago back when I had my 17 ft tinny we were fishing the Banks down south up the river from Arnie's place.

There was another GOAT like Fed's anchored up some 200 meters away from us, well the Whale Shark visited him 1st & like most people with a Viking like Fed's the guy SHAT himself.

Watched him pull up the anchor then come pelting @ us @ 100 mph yelling out Shark Shark There's a Great White coming this way & it nearly ate my GOAT

Well being The Jumpus Goodarus that I am I started pulling out the wire Traces was up to the challenge back then Great Whites weren't protected mind you.

Anywayways this Fed look-a-like did the Bolta never to be seen again think he went to visit Harold Holt, all of a sudden the fin appeared & the closer it got the bigger it became it was humungus mind you this thing was easy 4 ft + across the head.

I put the trace away when I got full epsy & called it for what it was A Whale Shark had encountered one B4, magnificent fish very docile & it was around 17 feet long same size as my boat.

Think I've mentioned B4 that I've seen things out there that very few people have & I probally wont see again this was one of those rare moments.

I've have a Humpback Whale surface 10 meters from my bow when on anchor it scared the CRAP out of me caught me by surprise & the noise it made when it opened it's blowhole now that's what scared the crap out of me.

But the funniest thing in my books was one of those sea lions they are massive anyway we were fishing for yellowfin on the shelf & every time we hooked one this sea lion would surface & steal it, ever seen a 30 kg yellowfin tuna being tossed up into the air as a plaything ??

That's all the sea lion did play with the yellowfin then one of the guys got the shits & jerked the fin away from the sea lion & gaffed it into the boat well that was a mistake wasen't it laugh.gif laugh.gif

Mr Sea Lion got the shits didn't he ! started bashing the side of the boat in a fit of rage so everybody did the BOLTA for the cabin laugh.gif laugh.gif

We were hiding & this bastard was still bashing the side of the boat so we made the guy who who caught the tuna go out & toss it back in the water, well that made Mr Lion happy & he left us alone till the next tuna came along.

Here's one you might remember Bobby. you were at the tubes all by tour lonesome and I poped down , said G/day Bob , and you nerly kaked your self laugh.gif laugh.gif . you let me have one of your 3 livies as that was all you got that morn. as I fumbled to hook him up I dropped him in the drink :o you were so kind to let me have your second last one, biggrin.gif I made shaw I got him on my hook and drifted him out.
about 10 min later I got this blue fin . so then we sat there all day watching yours swim around for nill results .

I dont have a great deal of them

Never carried a camera & thats a shame cause I've caught & seen some unbelievable fish over the years.

Just about all the pics I have were taken & given to me by other people most aren't of good quality & look quite crappy when I scan them onto the pc.

When I finally end up going down to Arnie's place I'll stael some from him there's some rip snorta's amoungst them included the one where he blew up his landcruiser with a bottle of gas laugh.gif laugh.gif

But here's one that's not to bad of a small hammer I got off the rocks

It's happened to me twice Smelly mainline cutting through the anchor rope very easy to do if mono is rubbing up against the same spot on the rope just like using a knife to cut rope felt the line rubbing & had the common sense to back drag off ell through the fight else I would've lost the fish.

Fortunately it fought clean up on the surface & didn't plug down deep else I prob would've lost it again not till the final stages of the fight did I see the damaged mono.

Yep SLR 5000

Hey Jumpus, you still wearing the same hat? Is that your lucky fishin hat? I had a lucky banana I used to take fishing with me, but had to end up eating it. Only old pic I could find of myself, is with a kung fush and a frozen bream. Not worth posting.
