2 Stroke, 4 Stroke Or Etec Options

hey fellow fishos,

what does everyone reckon are the best outboards,

a 2 stroke, a 4 stroke or an etec,

i have a 2 stroke but am going to update to a 4 stroke lat this year

My recommendation is E TEC more Power, faster Response, Less Weight, Half the amount of Moving parts, and extremely fuel efficient for a 2 Stroke.

im bagging e tecs but ive only spoken to about 3 or 4 guys who have e tecs and they have all had problems with them, 2 of them had to get the injectors done already, while i do have a 2 stroke im getting a 4 stroke later this year

hustler you're making the right move in my books people can crap on all they like about these E-TECS performance etc etc but when it boils down to CRUNCH TIME they're are still a Bloody 2 Stroke no different to motor bikes if you've ever had a motor cross bike how often did you have to rebuild it ???

I wanted to buy 4 Strokes 12 odd years back when they 1st came out back then only Honda had the 4 bangers & the biggest HP motor was a 40 HP way to small for my Goat so I ended up buying a pair of 85 hp 2 stroke yammy's instead now there's a pair of 115 hp 4 Strokes on the back

yep, im no guru on e tecs but if there are less moving parts on an e tec does that mean that there is more pressure on those parts ??

and as much as i love 2 strokes , they will slowly be thased out in the future, ive been told that you will only be able to buy a new 2 stroke for the next 5-10 years,

but you cant go past the huge amount of pluses +++++++ that ive heard about with 4 strokes,

and just another thing with the e tecs.. if some thing no matter how small goes wrong with them , then you have to have a laptop handy to fix them

You blokes have no I dea of the engineering of two stroke engines, Maybe people have had problems with E TECs but how many of these problems have been MECHANICAL, electronics are also used on four Strokes, and Benny there is no more stress or preasure exerted to a two stroke, it has no valves, no, camshafts, no timing belts, no valve springs or lifters, just a set of pistons and rods travelling at the same pace of a four stroke and actually doing less work, it is not the engine design that has problems it's all that electronic junk that is not working properly when they have a problem, and GUESS what the four strokes have all that electronic injection junk too.

I'm going to ask you one simple question SUMO ??

Most 2 Strokes are lucky to last 800 hrs before they need a rebuild whereas a $ Stroke will last you 5000 hrs

Why would you want to buy a @ Stroke ????????????

Is it because

a] you like mixing oil in with your fuel
b] you like the 2 Stroke fumes
c] you like the oil residue all over your boat
d] you're going deaf & need the noisier 2 Stroke to make sure you can hear the motor running
e] you like the idea of fouling plugs

Well I may have almost zero experience with outboards or boats, but I have ridden in both 2 stroke yammys and 4 stroke hondas along with other brands, and from a passengers point of view the honda was better. Of course fuel and maintanence come into it, along with other things, but for amount of noise and fumes, along with comfort, I prefered riding in a 4 stroke.

Never ridden in an E-Tec.

2 strokes have a power advantage,
4 stroks have a fuel advantage..

Its horses for courses...

If i had my choice id get a 2st Yammy!

JUMPUS, The only way you're gonna get 5000 hours out of your four strokes without a rebuild it to Lock them up in your Factory. Hell your lucky to get 5000 hrs out of a STAINLESS Trailer.

Boats can handle the extra weight geez I added an extra 140 kg when swapping over to 4 Strokes it may have lowered the arse a touch @ rest but did nothing to hinder the boats performance when under way.

If you're refering to hustlers boat only from what I picked up from the shoutbox the other week then yes he'd have to do a bit of weight transfer but should be doing that anyway by the sounds of it he's got way to much weight aft

My dads old boat had a 25hp 2st Jonno, The boat went great!
The new boat is .1m bigger, and a 30hp Honda 4st..

The prop is MUCH smaller, and th motor has no where near as much pull..

I would much prefer a 30hp/40hp 2 stroke on this boat.

The engine is much quieter, however i feel performance outweights the noise level in this particular case.

However on a boat like jumpys, where he can put 2 large capacity engines, I think 4st is the way to go!
