Sheets aren't all that heavy poly just awkward to handle that's why they're stacked against the wall like that, I dont lift any of them just flip them down onto milk crates I'm only lifting the cut out frames around 20 kgs each.

Mind you the hull & sides skins will be a pain in the butt to handle sides over 7 meters in length that's when the fork lift will come in handy.

This is a simple reason for it. You are building something. I look at the wood working forum for the same reason. Similar thing to when they build the ANZAC bridge. Would drive on the old bridge and try to look while I was driving pass. Good thing I did not cause an accident. Another thing was a sister was living in an apartment building next to a building site of a house. I would visit her and look out the windows down at the building site to see the progress. Got to a stage that she asked me are you visiting her or coming to see the building site. Took me a few seconds to think about that and gave the answer "Of course I am coming to see the progress of the building" smile.gif

More than a foot poly closer to 3 feet if you include the extended pod.

I would've finished up with a long ugly skinny boat which would've looked out of proportion.

Different story if the boat was to be moored cause I could've widened the beam to make it all proportional

Plus 7.1 meters is one hell of a boat on trailer, also had to consider existing Horse power

Not really, He cuts the tops and bottoms off, flattens and welds them together to create the sheets needed for the cabin. He has a few more to go......

Nope !

No need to, all holes are below floor level & none will be seen, if anything I'll drill them out to a larger size & run the Fuel lines throgh them.

Only the transom holes will need plugging up with welding.

I've been dead as a doornail last couple of days, came home early today so was in a bit of a mood to post.

OK no pics but the whole project has been dismantled & moved out back

Set up the Jig late yesterday with failing light which suited the Laser Level cause I could see the laser, chocked up all the legs with packers good slope in concrete slab so up to 10 inch's of packing on one of the legs.

Clamped extentions to legs & welded them on this morn after that I machined out water run off slots in the frames where the stringers run through.

Bolted everything up, welded in all the stringers, lined up the transom welded that in & called it a day cause of the wind taking away the gas.

Have to organise a big tarp to go over the job cause any wind & I'm stuffed.

After 2morro I'll be ready to start skinning the project

Well How bloody slow am I ?. I am still buggerising around trying to get some plans for the project, and Jumpy's almost finished the damn thing.
Well that will teach me to go away into the wilderness for 3 weeks.

Jeeze Jumpy you're not mucking around mate, will try and get down there to have a look see and offer any help I am capable of after the week end.
I could bring down my mig if you want a hand to do the long runs etc, it's only 240v but can weld 5mm OK.
Tried to ring you today but your mobile was off.

Jumpy,

What are you using to flatten/linish welds?
e.g. where you joined the sheets at the front and I guess the length of the reverse chines.

What material are you going to for the fuel tanks? Are you going to set up the same flush system again?
And to the others I am not stirring FED, but I am sure he visits the site and wants to know.

Also did you end up buying a pull gun or a standard mig gun?

For those that don't weld a standard mig gun pushes the aluminium wire which is soft and therefore most welders limit the gun lead to 3 metres. A pull gun has a small motor at the gun which helps pull the wire and most are 8 metres which means you don't have to move the mig power source around as much.

Good write up and pictures.

I know I know, I need to finish off that handrail, hopefully this week.

Just a 5" grinder to take off any heavy buildup then I just run a Zirconian disk over the area

Haven't had to do any grinding yet but I do have a 6 speed 3phase polisher @ my disposal can run anything from flap wheels to tungsen bits in it

Keep 4geting to take the camera poly I walk out of here still 1/2 asleep in the mornings laugh.gif laugh.gif

Not alot has been done to the boat itself since tuesday as it was pissing down for a few days so I worked indoors finishing seat box's kill tank & fuel tanks etc.

Did fit up the fuel tanks to the boat today

Withthe rainy days I also started glassing up all the underfloor flotation & that is a very time consuming task.

I'll go leave the camera with my keys so I dont 4get it

thanks mate, it may not sound to interesting what you have been doing, but its all part of the overall job and to be able to read how it all goes together is of interest at least to me and i would think to a lot of others.
i would think that coming home after a hard day it is difficult to add to the thread so i will try not to hound you to much for up dates smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
