Fishing oz style _ Four x Fourbies _ Air Con Stopped Working On Ma Vitara

Posted by: hustler57 Jan 1 2010, 03:41 AM

hello fellow forbies

quick question,

1 of my toys is a 1992 suzuki vitara , the other day while having some fun ma air conditionng just stopped working,

when i push the button the light comes on but the actual air con it self doesnt click in ? could this be a loose wire some where or what ?

Vague in your description but doubt very much if it's a loose wire

Get sum wun pushing the button whilst your under the hood & listen for the solenoide value to see if it's opening

ok let me give it in more detail... sorry

normally with the fan on i push the air con button and as normal u hear it click on and the revs change.. but now u click the air con button and nufin happens.... ive tried swearing at it... kicking the tyres... and threatened to put a nissan badge hysterical.gif hysterical.gif but it still wont work

Then pull out the switch & bridge the 2 wires going to it

That way ewe can rule out the switch if air con still wont come on

Switches tend to lose their contact ability over time & if the contacts aren't making contact then there's no power going to the solenoide

B4 doing this I'd 1st check the fuse

ok, ive checked the fuses already.. so 2omorrow il pull out the switch and check that... if still nothing ??? i know where the air con unit is... where do the wires from the air con switch go ?? im thinking maybe there is no power to th unit

Pump works off a fan belt & there's no need to bother looking @ that

Trace back the gas lines till ewe find the solenoide valve there'll be 2 wires plugged into it

ok thanks jumpus. il have a look at it again tomorrow, i think its about time i went and did some work...

The 'CLICK' you used to hear would be the electric clutch activating on the front of the compressor when you turned it on.

If the air-con system is low on gas, then the compressor will not click in....i would be 99% sure that it needs a re-gas....auto electrician will check for leaks first....

i agree with majed ,not long ago one of my cars done the same thing and all it was , it was out of gas ,then $130 later all was good ,,,jas

yep mine bugged up as well, i found the best way to fix it was to run a new Toyota hilux under it.

It sounds like the small sensor in the gas reserviour is low meaning not enough gas to activate the compressor.
The problem you may have being the age of the car is the type of gas in it, as it may require a full empty and new refit to take the new gas which can cost a bit, unless your lucky and can find someone with the old gas.
To tell if if the gas is low have a look under the bonnet and there is a canister with a small window bubble on the top , if it has a bubble or is clear then its a refill required.

Had the same prob with my wifes odyssey, the mobile air con guy came out and said all was fine with gas pressure. Ended being a $140 bill and a relay replaced that switches on the compressor, the other relay went that turns on the thermo causing the air con to again stop working-the relay cost under $20......might be worth checking your compressor and thermo relays-usually located between the radiator and engine on the same side the air con compressor is located.

So, what was the result? Is your air con fixed and what was the cause of the prob?

Posted by: hustler57 Feb 3 2010, 09:36 AM

yeah i got the air con guy out to have a look,

a part that connects onto it came off when i was driving..didnt even know tat it did... so he put a new part on and regas which ended up costing $160 but then we found out it had a leak behined the dashboard so there was another $370 to get the dashboard pulled out ...
